The original heading and web address for this site was Wrenn Art Studio & Gallery Inc. Well, the corporation has been dissolved. Just add water instead of capital and poof!
The end. I'll have more to say on what it takes to go through ending a corporation. The endless documents to be filed. Geez! Well, it had to come to an end but that doesn't mean that the Art stops. No way... Anyway, since the corporation no longer exists, I had to change the web address for legal purposes. So, I shortened it to just Wrennart studio.

Art from life: Neck & Face Stabbing

I believe that more often than not the best art comes from life experience. Perhaps the artwork has some technical flaws but if the

emotional impact grabs the viewer, well, that's what counts. That said

some paintings that I previously worked on in 2006 I am reworking as the result of my being stabbed in the neck and face during a home invasion robbery attempt. Initially the self-portraits of my head wrapped in gauze were concerned with psychological pain made manifest by a nonexistent exterior wound. I was never satisfied by the series and moved on to other work. Yet, fate intervened and in April of 2008 I was assault by a man who stabbed me about four times, twice to the left side of the neck, once to the back of the head and once or twice to the left side of my face. I have posted these paintings and an interesting comparison can be made with the previous versions of the painting prior to the assault. I have also posted the actual photographs of myself with the wounds and the sutures.

My Artistic Direction

At present my work is primarily in oil and focused on figurative male nude in bondage. I was simply focusing on the male erotic nude but I've drifted over to the body in restraints. The appeal is both emotional and technical. The type of restraint will alter the body in some way. That is a challenge and gives each painting a different problem to solve, whether it' how the rope pinches the flesh or how a blindfold distorts the face. Emotionally I become transfixed in the pathos of my subject. I am there and i am feeling the restraints along with the body I am painting. I added a twist to one of my painting by copying part of a Dega painting within my painting. It seemed amusing to me to include a reference to the great impressionist painter. It's not a famous painting and that makes the reference more subtle. I will included the painting in my next post.
